Page 1 of 2 British-born, award-winning journalist Yvonne Ridley is well known in the Muslim world for her outspoken views and defence of Islam. She endeared herself to the Muslim community in Britain when she reverted to Islam 30 months after making international headlines when she was captured by the Taleban on an undercover assignment in Afghanistan. She was a senior reporter of the Sunday Express at the time, having spent nearly 10 years in Fleet Street working for several prestige titles including The Sunday Times, The Observer, Daily Mirror and Independent on Sunday...
Sr Yvonne set out as a regional journalist nearly 30 years in her native North East. She has also worked on projects as a broadcaster, producer and presenter on programmes for BBC TV and radio, CNN, ITN and Carlton TV travelling to Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine. A founder member of Women in Journalism, she is also a promoter of women’s rights, and is also a founder member of the Stop The War Coaltion and the RESPECT political party. In her spare time Sr Yvonne travels throughout the UK and across the globe promoting peace and the anti-war message. She has also delivered lectures on issues relating to Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kashmir and Uzbekistan, Women in Islam, the War on Terror and journalism at Ivy League universities across the US, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East. Sr Yvonne is a founder member of the Friends of Islam, an All Party Parliamentary Group. She is also a member of the National Union of Journalists, the International Federation of Journalists and the Society of Authors. She has written two books called In The Hands of the Taleban and Ticket to Paradise and is currently writing and researching for two other titles. In The Hands of the Taleban has now been updated and is being published in both French and English for sale in leading bookshops soon. She is a patron of the UK-based pressure groups Cage Prisoners and Hhugs which seek to help and highlight the plight of political prisoners around the world as well as the financial and emotional needs of their families. She also devotes much of her time to humanitarian work and supports several charities. She also works as a political presenter and journalist for the global, english language, 24-hour news station Press TV as well as being a regular media commentator and writer on Muslim-related issues

This is a very genuine question, but has very simple answer. Muslims, with some exceptions as usual, feel everyone to be part of family irrespective of different cast, creed or colour. Muslims desire oneness, belonging and love for all fellow Muslims. So they feel happy with the addition in the family. The question is genuine, and the answer is very simple. Muslims, irrespective of cast, colour and creed, (with exceptions as usual) generally feel to be part of a family. Muyslims have feeling of oneness, feeling of attachment, feeling of belonging. Muslims' innate desire of this is aptly reflcted in the saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, "Muslims are like parts of same the body." Hence Muslims want to see all other to be in the same family, under the un-ending bounty of Allah Almighty. Allah alone's love and mercy for all His creatons is more than that of seventy MOTHERS. Do you know that. So, Muslims want all other to be under Allah's mercy. |

Dear sister yvonne ,I was very inspired to read your autobiography.Really Islam is borne into someone`s heart from Allah and there is nothing more beautiful,satisfying and fulfilling when Allah shows us the straight path .People should find out more by reading the Quran and visiting Islamic bookshops and indeed ISLAM is a religion of peace both inner and outer.Allah will test us on this earth to see how much we can tolerate but the burden that He makes us bare is not difficult to bear and in fact His reward is greater than the burden.No wonder in Australia and around the world there are lots of Reverts specially when they find themselves faced with a point of no return ie with drugs and alcohol abuse which is forbidden in islam .Their problems are solved without going into couselling or detox clinics.I am very proud to be borne into a muslim family and I do find inner peace within myself.I watch Isalm channel 813 and Peace channel 820 and would like to do Dawah Insha Allah one day

Dear sister, Assalamualaykum.
I have watched videos of some of your public speeches available in Youtube. You are very passionate, eloquent and moving in your speech. But I am afraid some of your ways of talking need careful revision by yourself in order to make positive changes.
As a Muslim, I am obliged to listen to your censures and face your anger or disapprovals. It is because, when I became Muslim, I myself agreed to take you as my guardian and friend. I really like the way you talk against Muslim men for what we are (I am a man too).
But what is it about George W Bush or Ariel Sharon and their allies and supporters? (For you I excluded Tony Blair as he is your Prime Minister, you have right over him from national point of view.) They do not belong to us. They are not in any agreement with us. They are free humans with no obligations to us. We are not their guardians. They are in no way obliged to us.
So we can not speak against our enemies in a fashion that may be appropriate when we speak against us for our mistakes or follies.
Just look into this reality. As you are a person of better knowledge than I am, you might have found some instances where the Prophet was not at all happy with some of his companions though they were his helpers, friends and ready to sacrifice their lives for him. But have you found any instance where the Prophet expressed any sign of unhappiness with or anger against his opponents who were his bitter enemies and inflicted his and his followers’ lives with unbelievable pains? Do you get the point in it?
I do not differentiate between a misery brought upon me by an earthquake and a misery brought upon me by my enemies. Do you get the point?
We, as Muslims, in fact should not express any angry against Bush or Sharon or their people. We must stand against them with firmness, but we should remain cool and wise when we speak against them.
Dear sister, you are a most lofty gift of Allah to us. I beseech you to cool down when you speak against the enemies of Islam. The pitch of our speech should not be aimed at moving our listeners’ passions or emotions, but it should be appealing to their rationality, intellect and conscience. |

They are not just qualities But qualitative characteristics which is a rare commodity specially in western countries. Other then Saudi Arabia in Islamic countries and especially in Pakistan, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and other religion have right to make Church and follow there religious way of life. Even in Pakistan Christian and Hindu have their religious holidays 25th December. The holiest places of Sikh’s are in Pakistan, and Govt. of Pakistan spend money and maintain these holly places, Sikhs are allowed to visit with out any objection.
In Pakistan international airlines there is special offer for Muslims and Christian employees to have Free round trip air ticket for Saudi Arabia and Italy ( Vatican city).
So how you can say that tolerance only from western nations.
And personally there was some my class fellow was Christian , really we never fell any difference between them, they have option to choice the study syllabuses. In Pakistan there is to many Christian missionary school and churches , they are working well |

Greetings. I wonder why we have to belong to any specific religion when one can live rationally and with a good relationship with other fellow beings. Only when we think and act selfishly with narrow perspective whether individually or nationally we tend to harm others. When such a person like you have chosen to be called a Muslim there must be some compelling reason. When the Muslims indulge in questionable terrorist acts and others also do the same thing though it is not called terrorism I am at a loss to understand the differences. You must be enlightening on such things either thru' mails or in web or by your articles.

Greetings. I wish you may tell us why you embraced Islam when the whole world as told by media is denigrating Islam? What is the special in that?Even Karen Armstrong despite her vast studies finds difficult to change her faith, though she is soft towards Islam. Is Islam as told by its critics is as cruel or is it just a propaganda? The Hindus very dexterously have managed to hold together their faith despite as per their own calling that it is only a mythology.Please let us know who is wrong and who has to be blamed? According to UN Demographic statistics. The Christian world has killed more human beings than Jews and Muslims put together. Whether it was state terrorism in:
Vietnam, Native American\'s in US (Red Indians), Aborigine Australia, Cambodia, Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Lets not foget how the innocent Africans were enslaved by Christan\'s who took their natural resources and gave them the bible in return. Lets not forget that those who caused the horrific holocaust were in fact CHRISTIANS. The list goes on and on including state terrorism in Iraq, Afganistan and Palestine. I do agree that there are muslims who misuse the name of Islam with violence but just sit back and look at yourself before you blame others. I am happy to see that the alternative voice and comment on world events is growing, particularly on middle east issues. But I am concerned that the alternative narrative appears to pick and choose where and whose stories they support in order to complete an already predesigned narrative - i.e. that there is a global conspiracy against muslims engineered by israel and the West. I do not believe this is the case. I do believe there is a lot of fear and misunderstanding on both sides.
So for example... if a muslim country opresses its people or those in occupied lands, such as in Western Sahara, they are agents of the West, bad muslims, and part of this global conspiracy against the Umna. But if those same governments speak out for Palestinians or support resolutions against the Iraq war, they become defenders of Islam and good muslims. Likewise for the Palestinan Authority - unfortunately whilst Arafat was a great liberation fighter he was a poor president of a country and this legacy remains today with high levels of corruption, poor rule of law, and paramilitary government forces. It is not undermining the Palestinian cause to voice these criticisms. But is it really so bad the Mahmoud Abbas is now seeking to identify solutions that might bring about an end to voilence and deliver a workable peace? Does this make him a traitor that he is prepared to see everything on the table? Would it be so bad criticise the continued violence and rejection of peace deals by Hamas? Would it be so bad as to look critically at Iran\'s support to the Palestinian people and consider whether they support all Palestinians, opr only those that support it\'s own agenda (rather like Saddam Hussein)? Also - I\'m quite concerned about what the reality for Palestinians living in West bank and Gaza is like - yes they are poor, yes Israel\'s blockade and military incursions s a large cause... but let\'s get really bold, what\'s the situation like for women? for gays? what\'s the quality of education? who\'s responsible for the corruption, what can be done? is there a free media inside these territories?
This is my plea - let the alternative narrative be a truely investigative one. Not a counter weight of bias for \'the other side\'. Give the world what it desperately need - a truely critical expose of all issues without a prior narrative to fulfil. And let no one and no state be free of the potential for criticism?
I would love you to write an article addressing these issues...
p.s. I've been looking at Press.TV website for a while now... longing to see even the smallest criticism of Iran\'s government on any issue - health care, social rights, anything... Even Fox News makes some criticism of its own government... Does it worry you to be associated with such a controlled media source? |

Evolution? Facts? Actually they aren't facts, they're forcifully accepted because of Scientists place in society; bigotness and ignorance has subdued them from the truth. Read Genesis and you will understand the Creation my friend. Scientists have no faith because everything they base their facts on must be "seen" and in no way, shape or form, does something"spiritual" creates a "solid" form of "real" mass. The spirit world is the REAL world, this physical plane of existence is another place of dwelling for God's will. Even Jesus stated that satan is the "prince of this world"(John 12:31). This world has become infested with people like you Paul. People who refuse God's glory and hide in the dark like cowards.
I'm a Christian but the bible does not preach hate, regardless if their Muslim. I love Muslims even if I may not agree with them. Muslims are some of the sweetest and nurturing people I have met. Yes I've had my doubts seeing these islamic terrorists and the things they do but shame on me to hate the Muslims I know. |

The Muslims lack this basic understanding of their philosophy and are carried away opining Islam as a religion. Islam is rational and a movement towards achieving world peace.They also do not undrstand their formidable enemy who does not hesitate to use any means to subvert Islam. I just read the comments you made in India through a local newspaper in Kerala. I was amazed to see your ignorance and hypocrisy when you made the case about victimhood of Muslims in India and abroad. As a Muslim, I can say that this victim complex is actually the biggest enemy of Muslims.
What you conveniently ignored is that only in a secular democracy like India, you can make comments like these. Can you make such a comment in any of the Islamic countries against Muslims? You said about the "attacks" on Muslims in India, but I would like to show the intellectual honesty to talk about the attacks against Muslims in Pakistan and Sudan by other Muslims. Maybe it is time to realize the "Islamic nation" that many Muslims glorify is just an Utopian myth. |

A lot of my friends are from different religions and i have noticed that they have a lot of misconceptions about islam. Its great that you have addressed some of the issues but its still a shame that people will still use any excuse to put islam down. I think a lot of people are extremely ignorant as were my friends but they have started to change their views now. I think your doing a great job keep it up. |
